Problem Steps Recorder is a new feature of Windows 7. It is designed to help service desk staff or IT administrators troubleshoot issues. To start Problem Steps Recorder, type "psr.exe" from the windows start menu.
Now all you need to do is click "Start Record" and run the application that is causing the error. Once the error has displayed simply click "Stop Record" and you will be prompted for a location to save your output as a zip file.
The output can then be sent to the service desk staff or IT administrator for analysis. The great thing about this tool is that the output is an XML page that can be viewed in any browser. The XML page documents all the user’s actions, complete with screenshots, user keystroke and additional background information.
This greatly improves the troubleshooting process by allowing the administrator to see exactly what caused the problem.
