The End of an Era - Steve Jobs Resigns

Today Steve Jobs officially resigned as Apple CEO.

The following statement was issued by Steve to the Apple Board of Directors and Apple Community:

"I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come.

I hereby resign as CEO of Apple. I would like to serve, if the Board sees fit, as Chairman of the Board, director and Apple employee.

As far as my successor goes, I strongly recommend that we execute our succession plan and name Tim Cook as CEO of Apple.

I believe Apple’s brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it. And I look forward to watching and contributing to its success in a new role.

I have made some of the best friends of my life at Apple, and I thank you all for the many years of being able to work alongside you.

Steve"

Apple responded by confirming that Tim Cook will replace Steve Jobs as CEO effective immediately, with Steve becoming Chairman of the Board.

I'm sure that some blogs and news outlets are already reporting the demise of Apple, however I think Steve's words were telling, that this transition has been meticulously planed, and they have been waiting for the right time to execute the change. The fact that Steve will remain as Chairman of the Board will hopefully ensure that his incredible vision will continue to shape the company for many years to come.

Steve has had an unbelievable career, with his exceptional vision and leadership changing the face of technology forever. If one man could embody the words "Life in Tech", Steve is that man.

Steve Jobs - D8 Conference

Over the past week the D8 (All Things Digital) Conference has been taking place with some very influential people form the tech world taking the stage. As a Mac fan I was particularly interested in the Steve Jobs interview and decided to share what I consider to be the highlights.

Adobe and Flash:

AppleTV and Google TV:

iPhone 4 Prototype:

iAd Restrictions:

Competition with Microsoft and Google:

Although the interview felt very carefully scripted, it was interesting to hear Steve's thoughts on some of these key topics. I would have loved to hear some more questions about the Mac, such as future plans and development of OS 10.7, however as Apple are so focused on the iPhone/iPad at the moment, it is not a surprise the Mac was forced to take a back seat, again.

D8 also had some other amazing interviews with Steve Ballmer (Microsoft CEO), Peter Chou (HTC CEO) and Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook CEO). To check them all out I suggest you head over to All Things Digital.
