Introducing RipIt

When it comes to ripping DVD's onto your Mac, I have always used a combination of MacTheRipper and Handbrake. Both these applications can be downloaded for free, which is a great selling point, however I have always had mixed results with the output. Recently I came across The Little App Factory's RipIt which claims to be the simplest DVD ripping application available, with a 99.9999% success rate. The downside to RipIt is that it will cost you £12, although this is a relatively small amount of money I would still need it to offer significant improvements over the free alternatives for me to think about switching.

Thankfully the team over at The Little App Factory are confident in their application and offer you 10 free DVD rips before you need to purchase a licence. This gives you the opportunity to try the application with no limitations before you buy.

RipIt offers a very Mac like, minimal user interface that just works. It reminds me a lot of other sole-purpose Mac applications, such as Disco and SecureFiles. To start the DVD rip all you need to do is insert a disc and let RipIt do its magic.

In terms of performance it rips at approximately the same speed as other software I have used (probably hardware limited), however during my tests it has proven to be highly reliable, not failing or displaying a single error.

Thankfully the little app factory seems to have created an application that lives up to their claim. Providing a great looking, simple to use and most importantly reliable DVD ripping application.

Overall if you only backup the odd DVD I suggest you stick with the free application such as MacTheRipper and Handbrake, however if you do a lot then I would highly recommend RipIt as it could save you a lot of pain anf time in the long run.
