Introducing Internet Explorer 10

Wait, wasn't Internet Explorer 9 only released four weeks ago? That's right, Microsoft have just shown the first developer preview of Internet Explorer 10 at MIX11, currently taking place in Las Vegas.

The demo shows off support for a number of new web features, such as CSS3 gradients, multi-column, and grid layouts. A video of the demo was also made available:

Microsoft have stated "We're about three weeks into development of IE10, and based on the progress we’ve made, we want to start engaging the development community now". This marks a significant departure from previous IE release schedules, which are normally aligned to Windows milestones.

As a result, it looks like we will see a more aggressive approach to the IE product life cycle, which may cause some challenges for Enterprise customers, but should help keep IE competitive with other modern browsers such as Chrome and Firefox.

Another sneak peek that came at the end of the demo was that the IE10 platform preview was running on an ARM powered version of Windows 8. Hopefully this is just a teaser, with more Windows 8 news coming later at the event.
