iPhone - Push Google Mail

One thing I have always wished I could get on my iPhone was push e-mail and calendaring for Google. This service has been available for Apple's Mobile Me and even Yahoo mail since launch, however in terms of e-mail I find both of these services lacking in speed and simplicity when compared to Google mail.

Thankfully Google have now released a method of pushing your data from their servers to your iPhone. Ironically the setup uses the Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync protocol, but is still very easy to setup and works really well.

Complete the following nine steps to setup your iPhone:

  1. Add a new mail account by selecting Microsoft Exchange (not google mail).
  2. In the Email field, enter your full Google Account email address.
  3. Leave the Domain field blank.
  4. Enter your full Google Account email address as the Username.
  5. Enter your Google Account password as the Password.
  6. Tap Next at the top of your screen.
  7. Choose Accept if the Unable to Verify Certificate dialog appears.
  8. A new Server field will appear. Enter m.google.com.
  9. Press Next at the top of your screen again to select the services you want to sync.
