Been using it for a few days and one word that cannot be associated with the service is speed. E.g. With Google music to upload an album (12 songs) it took around 15mins, if that. Throw the songs into a folder and your'e good to go. With iTunes Match its pretty much double that. Im guessing thats down to the three step process it uses.

1. Gathering Information about the music
2. Matching it to whats available in the iTunes store
3. Uploading the artwork + any remaining songs.

Bit of a long process but I suppose there is a bit more intelligence built to the service when compared to google music which simply acts a storage locker for you're music.

Another drawback is that when I enabled iTunes Match on my second machine, all my songs showed up as being available to stream however none of the artwork showed up. I found that once you downloaded the song locally from the cloud the artwork would show up. Its only a small detail, but it does annoy me looking at the library with blank artwork.

On the plus side..

Its a great service so far, I like the fact my music gets upgraded to the higher quality bit rate (256 kbps).

The fact that Im no longer tied to central location to upload my music is also cool and gives me more flexibility.

I also found once you add a track to iCloud it appears almost instantly across all the devices using iTunes match.

Will keep you and your readers updated if I come across anything else interesting.

Kevin

Matt (LifeinTECH) comments on Mac OS X Lion - Disable Guest User

Hi Beth,

Glad I could help.
