Introducing Evom

Print Article Video Encoding has always been a key part of my daily workflow and with the launch of the iPad (and rumored iPhone HD) I think it will become even more important in the future.
There are plenty of options for video encoding on the Mac and I have previously written about one of my favourites - Handbrake. What makes Handbrake so great is it's incredible set of features and the ability to customise every aspect of your encode. However, sometimes you just want to be able to quickly re-encode a video for a specific device (such as the iPhone, iPod Touch, etc) and don't want to have to worry about advance settings. In this senario I am looking for simplicity and speed.
Introducing Evom, the most simple and effective video encoding application I have ever come across for the Mac. Evom is from the team at The Little App Factory (who also make the brilliant RipIt) and is available for free. Once installed you are presented with a minimal user interface with a simple drop zone for your video files.

Once you have dragged a video on to the drop zone you will immediately be presented with the five most popular output options. It is simply a case of selecting an option and clicking convert.

If you select the "Folder" option you have the ability to specify the exact file type you would like to re-encode to. This adds just enough customisation for more advanced users, while still ensuring it is quick and easy to get started.

As part of my testing I was able to re-encode a 1.5GB (H.264 / MKV) file for iTunes in about 25mins on my Dual Core 2.8GHz MacBook Pro (Rev G).
When it comes to video encoding there are a couple of other Mac applications that do a similar job, such as Permute. However in my opinion none are as well put together (and cost effective) as Evom. I suggest you head over to The Little App Factory now and download your copy.
